Our
public servants are making decisions for the benefit of their privately owned
corporations at the expense of the business of the US government. You cannot work for the government and work
for a corporation and not be subject to a profound conflict of interest. I think so many people, of varied political
persuasion, have come to believe that it would be best for the country if the
government were run like a business. It
is part of the reason that the influx of corporate leaders into the House and
Senate has been so widely accepted and approved of in the form of the popular
vote. I think if we lived in a state of
isolated utopia, the model of government as corporation might possibly
work. However, the very capitalist
system that, in the process of its evolution, creates the logical merging of
capital and capitol thus brings about both the downfall of the system of
governance as well as the ideology of capitalism.

When I read in the news today that the Republican Congress will not approve a budget unless the Affordable Care Act is defunded, I felt impotent rage well up inside of me. Who are these people who posture and pose as so called leaders and servants of the public interest yet act to destabilize our country's economy and undermine the rule of law? They should all be booted out for flagrant abuse of power.
This is surely not the first time that I have been filled with an unspeakable anger at the underhanded machinations of the God-awful Republican party. Since when has it become legally acceptable to manipulate legislation so that is serves as a tool of bribery? I don't understand this bundling together of seemingly disparate pieces of legislation. (I should here take the time to research and give some examples in the last few years about how Congressional Republicans have exercised this newfound way to bully the opposition into submission. A more polite way to put it may be to say "they complicate negotiations with extraneous issues". One example that comes to mind is when they tried to attach passage of the Keystone Pipeline to the Transportation Bill. They were ultimately unsuccesful but it was the same type of manipulation. They said, "We won't pass (this sorely needed) Transportation Bill if the pipeline isn't approved.) How dare they threaten to "shut down" the government if the ACA is not defunded? How do they get away with this shit? Why is this permissable? How dare they attempt this distracting, time consuming, and expensive folly just 10 days before the ACA takes effect. The Republican Party is shameful, corrupt and narcissistic. It is very clear that they do not care about the well being of their citizens.

Here's a reason to vote for the mayoral candidate, Bill de Blasio.
He is a long time opponent of Citizens United.
Here he is in 2010 on the Dylan Ratigan Show talking about his effort to make corporations disclose political spending:

and here is an online comment which makes me smile.

"We need to clone Mr. DeBlasio, elect one of him President and send about 100 to the Senate."
And here is a quote from the following article... Bill de Blasio is the Founder of CAPS
Since the Supreme Court’s Citizens United decision, Public Advocate Bill de Blasio has been pressuring corporations to reform their political spending practices in order to reduce the impact of the Citizens United decision. The Coalition for Accountability in Political Spending was created by New York City Public Advocate Bill de Blasio.

I thought of this phrase, "the separation of corporation and state" about 2 years ago. It seemed right to the point and quintessentially American to me. I think there should be a push for an amendment to the constitution and we should call the amendment "the separation of corporation and state".
I remember during the time of Clinton's presidency up through George W. Bush's first term in office, the weak Democratic voice bandied the term "campaign finance reform". We desperately needed it back then but what we got instead was the utterly perverse citizen's united, the total negation of campaign finance reform.
(above written 12/16/12. sounds very outdated, it is a barely formed thought.)
now it is 9/1/13
My clever idea for the day:
higher ed = hire ed
higher education = hire education
perfect.
higher ed gets you hired.
that sounds like some good copy for an ad agency...
I do think we see enough ads telling us about all that another degree will do for us.... the ads seem to be working...
